Structural Steels
Multi-purpose steels
Structural heavy plate is a carbon and low alloy rolled product that has good weldability, varying degrees of strength depending on the quality of the steel and resilience at low temperatures. The construction of buildings, bridges and the production of general purpose steel constructions are the main sectors where structural heavy plate is used.
This type of heavy plate is produced in accordance with the requirements of international and national standards, which are the most widely applied:
- European Standard EN 10025.
- US Standards ASTM A36/A36M, ASME A36/A36M, ASTM A283/A283M, ASME A283/A283M, ASME A572/A572M, ASME A572/A572M, ASTM A709/A709M.
- Canadian Standards CSA G40.21.
Sectors of application
- Structural fabrication
- Building cladding
- Bridge structures
- Overpasses
- General steel constructions
- Manufacture of equipment for wind, on and offshore energy production, wind farms
Conditions of supply
Gross rolling mill
Products made from S235JR, S275JR and S355JR structural steels are generally rolled without changing rolling temperatures and heat treatment conditions. The material designation for a product rolled in this way is given the abbreviation +AR, or the specification is omitted altogether.
Standardisation lamination
The +N supply state can be achieved by annealing in a furnace (+N) or by rolling with subsequent forming in a given temperature range (+NR). This results in a material state equivalent to that achieved after normalisation annealing.
When a structural steel has undergone normalisation annealing in a furnace or has been normalised by the rolling process, the abbreviation +N is added to the material designation. Steels which have undergone these treatments have a homogeneous fine-grained structure and good formability.
Technical information
The normative and technical documentation for structural and general purpose steel plate shows the chemical composition of steels, the level of mechanical characteristics (yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, resilience, etc.) and other quality parameters of products suitable for this use.
